About Me
My path as a practitioner of the Rolf Structural Integration method began when my young daughter was diagnosed with Legg-Calve-Perthes disease. A childhood condition that occurs when the blood supply to the femur is temporarily interrupted, causing the head of the femur to weaken and the bone to die. Thanks to the work of a few great doctors, nurses, and one Rolfer, the bone has regenerated and she has grown to be strong and healthy.
Growing older she experienced one residual ailment from her illness, arthritic pain in the hip ball-socket joint. To ease this pain she asked only to see the Rolfer again. She said, “…only the Rolfer took the pain away.” Watching my daughter regain her strength and resume the normal life of a child; I became interested in the strength and resiliency of the body and the Rolfer’s ability to get my daughter up and moving again. I needed to understand what the Rolfer did to promote change and ease her chronic pain. This in mind I began my training.
In 2008 I became a certified licensed massage therapist. I have been employed in both spa and clinical settings; working on hundreds of clients over the years,
each with their own unique issues and pain. I continued advanced training in: deep tissue, chiropractic massage, reflexology, carpal tunnel syndrome, lomi lomi pregnancy massage, myofascial release; always searching to find what method could best relieve chronic pain. All this training was useful, only I didn’t want patient’s asking why the pain returned so soon after the massage. I sought out looking to answer this question, when the words of my daughter returned to me, “Only the Rolfer took my pain away…”
I began my Rolf Structural Integration training at the International Professional School of Bodywork (IPSB, San Diego). I was fortunate to study under Edward W. Maupin, Ph.D. who trained in 1968 with creator of Structural Integration Dr. Ida P. Rolf, PH.D, at the Esalen Institute in Big Sur, California. Mr. Maupin has been working and teaching her method ever since. It was here at IPSB, that I found the answer to my question. I discovered that Rolf Structural Integration was not a massage, but a more systematic system affecting the connective tissue and structure, far more effective in relieving chronic pain than any other modality.
